Simi Valley Community Foundation
to begin application process
for Human Service Facility

Agencies interested must meet specific criteria to be eligible for inclusion

The Simi Valley Community Foundation is initiating the application process for non-profit agencies interested in being included in a Simi Valley Human Service Alliance "under one roof" facility.  "We want to begin meeting with organizations who may be interested in being part of this type a facility," said Barbara Frova, who serves on the Foundation’s Human Services Alliance committee.  The facility, once completed, will provide families and individuals convenient access to critical human services in one central location. Organizations that are housed in the facility will be provided with free or reduced rent, which will allow them to maximize their own fundraising dollars to offer clients greater services.

Following a unanimous vote by the Simi Valley City Council, the City has initiated a process that will enable the City’s Redevelopment Agency to lease a portion of the Development Services Building to the Simi Valley Community Foundation for the establishment of the Simi Valley Human Service Alliance facility.  The facility is expected to be completed in the next 2-3 years and will be privately governed and operated by the Simi Valley Community Foundation.  “This is exciting news for the Foundation, we have been working towards the creation of a Human Services Facility since 2004 and it is exciting to know that it will finally become a reality.”
Thanks to the City, we can now focus our attention on agencies that will benefit from such a facility,” said Bob Huber, chair of the Simi Valley Community Foundation.

Agencies need to meet the following criteria to be considered for inclusion in the facility:

* Shall be incorporated, not-for-profit, voluntary and exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c) (3) of the IRS Code or a public agency providing critical health & human service programs; and must have a non-discrimination police and affirmative action statement;
* Shall have been in operation in the field of health and human services for a minimum of two years; and must have current and necessary program licenses;
* Shall have a constitution and/or by-laws, which clearly define purpose and objectives; and the duties, responsibilities and authority of its governing board;
* Must submit a certified audit and provide services to persons within Simi Valley;
* Must be able to demonstrate its ability to provide one or more services that are of extraordinary benefit to residents in Simi Valley; and must agree to not hold fundraising events that would compete with the Simi Valley Community Foundation;

Interested agencies are encouraged to complete and submit an Agency Interest form available on the Simi Valley Community Foundation website at www.simivalleycf.org or call 583-6874 for more information.
